I’m currently working on a novella, and there have been so many directions I’ve wanted to take this story. At this point, I’m not sure if anything but the original idea will remain as I work on draft 2, so I thought I would share a few lines that I enjoyed, which may or may not make it into the final draft.
When he finally met my gaze, his eyes widened, and he stumbled back, tripping over a pile of spell books on the floor. His eyes moved past me, and I watched as he looked at his reflection in the mirror. He placed a hand over the front of his head where his skull hadn’t fully formed—part of his brain exposed. He fingered the gap in his left cheek and poked at a tooth that was hanging by a sinewy thread. The skin on his forehead peeled back as his other hand grazed over it, revealing raw red tissue beneath. Blood trickled down his face, and as he wiped it away, it stained his fingers.
This next line makes me chuckle. However, it’s highly unlikely that I’ll keep it.
A small, hard thing fell into my mouth, along with the taste of blood. It was his tooth, I presumed.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this and can gleam what my book might be about!
